Antique Faux Grain English Chest of Drawers, c. 1890

A glorious example of the original faux grain paint (popular in the Victorian era). A "2 over 2" English chest of drawers with a mesmerizing finish on bracket feet. The painted "grain" on the exterior of this piece is a true art form, used decoratively in the 17th-19th centuries when most soft wood (pine) pieces were painted. Pine wasn't considered a luxurious wood, so hardwoods like oak, chestnut, and mahogany grains were often mimicked with this technique.

Please note: antiques can (and often do!) come with dents, chips, cracks, stains, uneven coloring, and signs of their old age—small details that contribute to big character.
