Antique English Faux Grain Box c. 1880

Sale Sold out

An antique pine box with faux grain and diamond design in original paint, from Cheshire c. 1880. The painted "grain" on the exterior of this box is an art form, used decoratively in the 17th-19th centuries when most soft wood (pine) pieces were painted. Pine wasn't considered a luxurious wood, so hardwoods like oak, chestnut, and mahogany grains were often mimicked with this technique.

Dimensions: 32.5"L x 16.5"H x 19"D

Please note: antiques can (and often do!) come with dents, chips, cracks, stains, uneven coloring, and signs of their old age—small details that contribute to big character.
